The whiter the bread, the quicker you’re dead – excellent very old audio recording
I enjoyed this tape so much, I finally got around to buying an analogue converter to convert my old audio tapes to mp3 and it worked a treat. The recording is called the Great Grain Robbery and as you will hear, it must be from the 1970’s.
Listen to the talk here…

White bread – full on empty calories. I recall as a child in our household it was referred to as newspaper!
The talk covers the nutritional value of grains and goes right back to the early 1800’s when the new food manufacturers came on the block – the grain millers. It then takes us through to the 1930’s when in the depression many people could only afford the staples of bread and sugar and the incidence of the diseases Beriberi and Pellagra began to skyrocket. The showdown was set between the processed food manufacturers and public health doctors.
We can apply a lot of what happened back then to the food politics that abounds today. Listen and learn.
