The GaitScan™ System is a state-of-the-art computer software/hardware diagnostic tool for assessing the biomechanics of your feet. It enables rapid and accurate assessment of the bio-mechanical function of the feet whilst walking.
The gait analysis provided enables the practitioner to determine whether a patient has a tendency to pronate or supinate during walking. Tendency for the foot to be in either direction can give rise to a number of joint problems that can be the cause of pain in the foot, knee, hips and back which can lead to bad posture and start affecting the neck and shoulders.
High arches have the tendency to roll outwards and the impact is distributed on the outside of the feet. Common problems for supinators are outer shin splints pain, arch or heel pain, outer knee pain, iliotibial problems, hip pain and lower back pain.
Flat feet have little to no arch and tend to roll inwards and the ankles and knees feel knocked inwards. Common problems or injuries for flat feet are inner shin splints pain, arch or heel pain and knee pain underneath the knee cap.
The advanced pressure analysis system scans, analyses and displays 2D and 3D representations of your gait to see where there is too much or too little pressure. It takes the guess work out of whether or not your foot biomechanics is contributing to your pain.
The Gait Scan can reveal biomechanical dysfunction such as flat feet or over pronation which means that too much pressure is put on the inner borders of the foot during walking and over supination means that excessive pressure is on the outside border of the foot.
Determining the weight distribution in standing helps in the diagnosis of foot problems and elsewhere that can cause pain. A dynamic gait scan of the pressure distribution of the foot whilst walking provides a wealth of information.
It is this useful information that gives a diagnosis of the problems caused from your feet and can help in the generation of an orthotic in sole device that is custom made to help correct the underlying problem. The use of the orthotic helps to restore optimal biomechanics and can lead to a great reduction and even the elimination of pain.
This video gives an explanation of when GaitScan might be appropriate and some of its benefits.
